When A Roof Restoration Is Not Enough

A good roof over your head is arguably one of the most important parts of your home. It can provide you with peace of mind and keep you, your family and your possessions safe and dry in storms. When your roof does leak, it might be tempting to consider some quick fixes to save a little money. There might be times when this is appropriate; however, there are times when only a full roof replacement by a professional roofing company makes sense.

One of the first things a roofing company will do with a failing roof is to offer a full inspection. This will determine how worn the roof is, how many cracked and curled shingles there are, and a host of other issues. If there are only one or two minor issues with the roof, then a partial restoration might be in order. On the other hand, if the contractor finds a lot of things wrong with the roof, then it is probably time for a full roof replacement.

Another thing to look for is the integrity of the boards beneath the shingles. In some cases, the boards become warped or rotted, or even infested with insects. If this is the case with more than one or two of the boards then it is likely the entire roof will have to come off to replace the boards. Also, the roof is not just the shingles and boards, but also includes many other features such as flashing, tar paper and ventilation. All of these need to be working for the roof to be effective.

As a homeowner, don’t make the mistake of opting for patchwork fixes when a roof replacement is needed. A good new rood will protect the value of your home and keep your family safe. In the long run, a new roof will pay off.
